And the correct answer to the “Afraid of the Dark” puzzle was…
DECOY! Located at 529½ Hudson St. in a former laundromat in the West Village, Decoy is now a fancy Chinese restaurant known for its Peking duck. If you’re sitting at the bar, try ordering one of the Asia-inspired cocktails, featuring flavors like oolong and ginger. Or, you might be seated at the iconic long communal table, with the perfect wall decor as a backdrop: a ducky-themed Last Supper painting.
In this puzzle, you first need to spell out the names of five animals in the grid, where each animal word is spelled out with adjacent letters: ANT, BUTTERFLY, CATERPILLAR, DEER, and EARTHWORM.
Once you have spelled out all five animals, the medium and large flashlight sizes are unlocked. This provides you with a set of a clues to a logic puzzle where you need to determine the animal(s) in each tile. Specifically, each tile contains up to one ant, up to one butterfly, up to one caterpillar, up to one deer, and up to one earthworm.
After solving the logic puzzle, look at the tiles that contain an ant. They trace out the letter “D”! Similarly, if you look at the tiles that contain an ant, they trace out an “E,” and so on for “C,” “O,” and “Y”:
Putting these letters together spells out the final answer: DECOY!
